It wasn't that long ago that Social Circle was simply trying to win a football game. Now the Redskins are in the state rankings.

Social Circle is one of four new schools to enter the GPB Football Rankings this week, making its debut at No. 10 in Class A Division I. Others new to the rankings this week are Lowndes (No. 10 in Class 7A), Eastside (No. 10 in Class 5A) and Wayne County (No. 9 in Class 4A).

Social Circle has made the playoffs the last two seasons but had a three-season stretch from 2012-14 that saw the team go 0-10. Coach Rob Payton’s' team is 4-1 after a 39-7 win over former No. 6 team Lamar County, its fourth straight win.

All the No. 1 teams remained the same: Buford in Class 7A, Hughes in 6A, Cartersville in 5A, North Oconee in 4A, Cedar Grove in 3A, Fitzgerald in 2A, Prince Avenue Christian in Class A Division I and Early County in Class A Division II.
