Week 5 Milestones: Stephens County Coach Nabs 100th Career Win

Stephens County coach Wesley Tankersly picked up his 100th career victory on Friday when the Indians beat White County 56-26.
Tankersly’s son, Brock, was a key contributor. He caught one touchdown pass and scored on a pick-six. Stephens County is 5-0 and ranked No. 3 in Class 3A.
This is Tankersly’s sixth season at Stephens County, where he has compiled a 33-25 record with one region championship. He previously served three seasons at Ridgeland, where he won a region title, and seven seasons at Gilmer.
Win No. 50 for Perry, Pierce County coaches
Kevin Smith of Perry and Ryan Herring of Pierce County both earned their 50th career victory last week.
Perry defeated Peach County 44-21, while Pierce County beat Charlton County 49-6.
Smith is in his seventh season at Perry, where he is 50-25 with three region titles and two trips to the state quarterfinals. Smith spent 16 seasons as an assistant coach at Northside Warner Robins before taking the job at Perry.
Herring is in his fifth season at Pierce County, where he is 50-7 with three region championships and the Class 3A state title in 2020. The Bears reached the quarterfinal round a year ago. The victory was actually the 100th career win for Herring, who compiled a 50-21 record at Oxford, Ala., before making the move to Blackshear.
Coaches earn their first victories
Christian Heritage beat Pickens 29-24 to give veteran coach Frank Barden his first win with the Lions. It was Barden’s 218th career victory in a career that includes stops at Pickens, Cartersville, Stephens County and St. Francis.
Kareem Reid earned his first win at McEachern on Friday when the Indians defeated Tucker 49-7.
Berrien beat Atkinson County 42-22 and handed Ken Eldridge his first win as head coach. It also denied a first victory for Atkinson coach Bobby Jones.
Chattahoochee coach Danny Carlisle got his first victory with a 34-0 win over Johns Creek.
Georgia Military beat Riverside 46-12 and give Bobby Rhoades his first win.
Paulding County’s Sumo Robinson earned his first win when the Patriots beat Newnan 27-0.
