Football Schedule Set For GHSA Championships
Primary Content
The final field for the GHSA football championships is set.
Sixteen teams will compete in eight classifications during the Tommy Guillebeau State Championship, Dec. 11-13, at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. The games return to Mercedes-Benz Stadium for the first time since 2018. They have been played at Georgia State the previous four years.
All games will be broadcast live on GPB-TV, GPB.org/sports and the GPB Sports app.
Only two defending state champions made their way back to the title game – Class A Division I Prince Avenue Christian and Class A Division II Bowdon. The Prince Avenue-Swainsboro game is a rematch of last year’s game, which PAC won 52-34.
Cedar Grove is the only other finalist to return. The Saints were beaten 21-17 by Sandy Creek in the Class 3A final in a game marred by a bad call that led to the GHSA adopted video review for the championship games.
The participants for the state flag football championships will be determined this week. The first- and second-round games will be played Tuesday and the quarterfinal and semifinal games will be played on Friday.
