The third week of the Georgia High School Association season features plenty of rivalry games. No one has started region competition, leaving the schedule filled with non-conference games.

Here are five interesting games to watch this weekend.

Rome at Carrollton: It isn’t often that one team has already played two games before their opponent has play any, but that’s the case on Friday when Rome visits Carrollton in this week’s GPB Football Friday in Georgia broadcast.

Carrollton (2-0) defeated Columbia 35-7 on Friday night. The Trojans are led by all-state quarterback JuJu Lewis, who has committed to play at Southern Cal.

Rome has yet to play a game. The Wolves season opener was cancelled as a precautionary move after a school bus overturned on the way home from a preseason scrimmage. As many as 15 players sustained injuries, leaving coach John Reid to cancel the opener against Creekside.

Rome leads the series 6-4. The schools were in the same region for six years and have continued to play, despite being in different classifications.

Carrollton has won the last two meetings -- 33-13 in 2023 and 23-6 in 2022.

Northside vs. Warner Robins: Expect another capacity crowd at McConnell-Talbert Stadium for the annual lovefest between these two rivals. Warner Robins (1-1) got back on track by beating Fayette County 42-7. Northside (2-0) remained undefeated by defeating Baldwin 13-12. Warner Robins leads the series 41-25 and the Demons have won the last seven meetings, including 39-35 in 2023.

This is the GPB Streaming Game of the Week and can be viewed live at GPB.org/sports. The stream will provide video and sound, but no announcers.

North Gwinnett at Colquitt County: North Gwinnett (1-0) took the week off after its impressive opening-game victory against 39-17 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Colquitt County (2-0) roared past Monroe 52-14 last weekend. Although separated by about 230 miles, the teams have met seven times – four of those in the playoffs – with Colquitt winning five. North’s last victory over the Packers was a big one as it came in the 2017 Class 7A championship game and gave the Bulldogs their only state title.

Houston County at Perry: This is another big rivalry game with Houston Country bragging rights at stake. Perry, which won the Class 4A championship in 2023, is off to a 2-0 start after its 49-39 win over Peach County. Houston County (2-0) is coming off a 44-34 win over Effingham County. Houston County holds a 7-5 lead in the series and has won four of the last five meetings, including 42-35 last year.

Mays vs. Douglass at Lakewood Stadium (Saturday): Only five miles separate these two Atlanta Public School representatives, so expect a big crowd to show up for this Saturday spotlight game. Both teams are coming off losses. Mays (1-1) ran into a buzzsaw and lost 52-16 to Hughes.  Douglass (1-1) lost 23-7 to Westlake. Douglass leads the series 14-12 and won 21-18 last year to end a five-game streak for Mays.
