The Lovett Lions became the 50th football program in Georgia to reach the 500-win milestone on Friday when they defeated Spencer 46-23.

The program has had a long and storied history of excellence with two state championships and 17 region titles. This year’s team is 3-0 for the first time since 2013 and the unbeaten start includes a win over arch-rival Westminster.

Some of the success has been the school’s ability to retain its winning coaches over the years. Current coach Mike Muschamp is in his 20th season and has compiled a record of 165-77 with three region titles and a state championship in 2013. Bill Railey went 198-73 with 11 region championships during his 23 seasons. Jeff Hollis was 32-26 in five seasons with one region title. Bill Conley went 93-49-5 in 14 seasons with two region championships and the 1970 state championship.

South Gwinnett’s Lamar notches No. 100

South Gwinnett coach Bryan Lamar celebrated his 100th career win on Friday when the Comets beat rival Brookwood 42-20.

Lamar is in his fourth season at South Gwinnett and has a 17-17 record. The Comets are 3-0 and trying to return to the state playoffs for the first time since 2021.

Lamar was the head man at Tucker from 2012-2020 and went 83-29 with four region championships and two trips to the state championship game (2013 and 2016).

Randolph-Clay’s Truitt hits century mark

Charles Truitt, in his third season as coach at Randolph-Clay, earn his 100th career victory on Friday when the Red Devils beat Columbus 30-8.

Truitt is 6-16 at Randolph-Clay. He spent 17 seasons at Monroe in Albany and went 85-90 with one region championship in 2006. He began his head coaching career at Sumter County in 2002 and went 9-11 in two seasons. He has taken 11 teams to the state playoffs, including Randolph-Class last year.
