The famed Valdosta Wildcats will make a rare appearance in the metro Atlanta area this week to play at South Gwinnett on GPB’s Football Fridays in Georgia.

This will be only the second time the two teams have met. Valdosta won the other meeting 41-7 in the 1998 quarterfinals in Valdosta.

This will be Valdosta’s first non-playoff appearance in Gwinnett County since 2006 when they played a home-and-home series with Brookwood (2006-07) and lost both games.  The Wildcats made a trip to Cobb County to play McEachern in 2023.

No. 7-ranked Valdosta improved to 4-0 on Friday by defeating Jesuit, Fla., 35-28. The Wildcats have also defeated Tucker, Mundy’s Mill and Dougherty. Their last 4-0 start came in 2022 when coach Shelton Felton’s team won their first eight games and finished the season 8-3.

South Gwinnett is 3-0 with wins over Shiloh, Dutchtown and Brookwood. The Comets did not play last week. Coach Bryan Lamar’s team is trying to match last year’s 4-0 start.

Kickoff for Football Fridays in Georgia will be 7:30 p.m. The game can be seen on GPB TV and online at GPB.org, GPB Sports app, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Twitch.

The live-streamed game on Friday will be Jefferson at North Oconee at 7:30 p.m.
