It may be a new-look squad for Blessed Trinity and head coach Brandon Harwell, but to this point, that’s the only thing that’s changed.

Despite a rehauled roster, the Titans are contending again, in search of their third straight unbeaten region record.

“So far, it’s been another good year,” Harwell, whose team is 5-1, said. “We’re younger than we’ve ever been. We had ten seniors last year and the year before that. This season, we only have five seniors, and only a couple of those have actually played in our program. But it’s a very talented group. I feel like we’re really athletic. We’re experiencing some of those youthful mistakes at times, but we’re growing through that. It’s an extremely tightly knit group, which is great to see. It’s an incredibly fun group to coach.”

Following a Week 2, 6-0 loss to Columbus, the Titans have won four in a row, most recently taking a Thursday doubleheader – 24-0 against Greater Atlanta Christian and  24-0 against Marietta.

On this younger squad, Harwell has relied on a pair of juniors in the successful start to the season.

“It all starts with Hannah Daley,” Harwell said. “She’s a lacrosse player committed to the Naval Academy. She had 900 receiving yards last year and a total of 20 touchdowns on offense and defense combined. She’s a really talented athlete. She’s a strong leader for us as you might imagine with someone going to the Naval Academy. She’s learned a lot from the girls above her and she stepped into that starring role for us last year. Maggie Sullivan is another big piece for us. She’s a really good running back as well as a rusher on defense. Maggie is kind of our safety blanket on both sides of the ball. Maggie is an exceptional athlete. While she’s not tall in stature, she’s very fast and can use that speed to her advantage.”

Under center for the Titans is Addie Spak, who Harwell is excited to see back in a rhythm.

“Addie has only had 2 1/2 days of practice so far, as she’s also on our softball team,” Harwell added. “She’s actually played in more games than she’s practiced. This will be her first year as a starter and so far, she’s doing a great job distributing the ball. She’s a four-sport athlete, another tremendous athlete. Addie gets us where we need to be and is not afraid to push the ball downfield.”

The hot start to the year is nothing new for the program, which is 58-9 overall and 22-1 in region play. The Titans took home the 2022 Class 7A championship, before falling to Pope in last year’s Final Four. Harwell knows it’s a long road to December, but the 2024 team has championship aspirations – and the Titans might just have enough talent to add another trophy.

“The team really is bursting with enthusiasm,” Harwell said. “The kids just love it. They soak up everything we tell them and they really want to learn. They’re lively, energetic and they want to be as successful as they can, which makes my job pretty easy.”

The Titans continue their championship chase Monday, when they take on Lithia Springs and Sequoyah.
