Milestones: No. 500 for Metter, Rockmart; No. 100 for Henderson

It was a good weekend for milestones.
Metter and Rockmart both reached the 500th victory in the program’s history and Jasper County coach Ashley Henderson won his 100th game.
Metter actually got No. 500 on Oct. 11 by beating Screven County. The Tigers are 501-401-19 since the program began in 1925. The program has produced 13 region championships.
Metter is 11-7 under coach Lee Shaw, who is in his second season. The winningest coaches in program history are John Glanton, who went 110-51-1 with four region championships in 14 seasons from1987-2000, and Rodney Garvin, who went 52-12 with four region championships in five seasons from 2018-2022.
Rockmart defeated Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe 49-20 on Friday. The Yellow Jackets are 500-397-26 with 16 region championships and one state championship since they began playing football in 1923.
Current coach Biff Parson is the winningest coach in program history. In nine seasons Parson is 89-20 with seven region championships.
Rockmart’s only state championship came in 1950 under coach J.D. Langley, who spent four seasons at the helm. Langley was 24-14-2 and beat Valdosta for the state championship.
Henderson reached the 100-win mark when his team defeated Social Circle 31-29. In three seasons at the school, Henderson is 15-14.
Henderson went 19-22 in four seasons at Thomas County Central (208-2021) and was 66-12 in six seasons at the Valwood School from 2012-17. Valwood, a GISA school, won five region championships and three state championships under Henderson.
