About Prince Avenue Christian: The No. 1-ranked Wolverines (10-3) won the Region 8-2A championship. Sophomore running back Andrew Beard (1,930 yards rushing, 21 TDs) was voted the region player of the year and senior defensive lineman Christian Garrett (82 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, six sacks) was voted the region’s co-defensive player of the year. Other players named to the first unit of the all-region team were wide receivers Hudson Hill (44 receptions, five TDs) and C.J. Dockery (26 receptions, eight TDs), tight end Brice Williamson (25 receptions, six TDs), offensive linemen Jake Atha and Mason Townsend, defensive lineman Jack Lanier (44 tackles), linebackers Mac Bradley (112 tackles, six sacks) and Kyler Giddens (108 tackles), and defensive back Judd Shoemaker (44 tackles, four interceptions).
About Hebron Christian: The No. 6-ranked Lions (11-2) finished second in Region 8-2A. Senior lineman Sichan John (79 tackles, 21 tackles for loss) was named the region’s co-defensive player of the year. Other first-round all-region selections were quarterback Thomas Stallworth (2,025 yards passing, 24 TDs), running back Devon Caldwell (1,213 yards, 19 TDs), receiver Jarvis Mathurin (48 receptions, 12 TDs), offensive lineman Adam Cannon, defensive lineman Carrington Coombs (44 tackles, eight tackles for loss), linebacker Nick Wade, defensive backs Max Steve (111 tackles), K.J. Thomas (one interception, five passes defended) and Gerritt Kemp (30 tackles, three interceptions), and punter Cam Eblen.
How they got there: Prince Avenue Christian def. Providence Chrisian 62-14, def. Calvary Day 61-39, def. North Cobb Christian 43-0. Hebron Christian def. Lovett 28-14, def. Aquinas 63-13, def. Fellowship Christian 24-17.
Championship history: Prince Avenue Christian has won the state championship the last two seasons and in three of the last four seasons. The Wolverines finished second in 2021 and 2012. This is the first time Hebron Christian has reached the championship game.
Series history: The teams played during the regular season with Prince Avenue winning 34-31 on Nov. 1. Prince Avenue leads the series 10-1 and Hebron hasn’t won since their first meeting in 2010.
