About Marist: The No. 1-ranked War Eagles (14-0) won the Region 5 championship. The War Eagles are led by three-year starting quarterback Jack Euart, who leads the team in rushing (994 yards, 12 TDs) and has thrown for 696 yards and nine touchdowns. Brayden Lewis (531 yards, four TDs) and Trace Gaynes (527, nine TDs) are the primary backs in a deep rotation. The defense is led by Jack Richerson (17 tackles for loss, 25 hurries, 10 sacks, four interceptions) and Max Mraz (74 tackles, five sacks). Kicker Drew Linnihan could be a factor; he’s 11-for-13 on field goal tries.

About North Oconee: The No. 3-ranked Titans (14-0) won the Region 8 championship. North Oconee is led by junior QB Harrison Faulkner, the region co-player of the year, who has thrown for 3,017 yards and 37 touchdowns and rushed for 713 yards and six touchdowns. Wide receiver Landon Roldan, the region’s offensive player of the year, has 70 receptions for 1,280 yards and 20 touchdowns. Linebacker Khamari Brooks, the region’s co-defensive player of the year, is a two-way standout who has 27 receptions and eight touchdowns and leads the team with 113 tackles and 10 sacks.  First-team all-region selections include receivers Dallas Dickerson (21 receptions, six TDs) and Braxton Goolsby (89 tackles), lineman Carter Mink, defensive linemen Patrick Elliott and A.J. Fick, linebackers Maddox Brice and Luke Burnett and defensive back Charlie Hawkins.

How they got there: Marist def. Warner Robins 47-25, def. Jones County 22-14, def. Cambridge 40-14 and def. Creekside 27-21. North Oconee def. Eagle’s Landing 49-0, def. Ware County 35-6, def. Cartersville 28-26 and def. Blessed Trinity 27-7.

Championship history: Marist has won three state championship (1989, 2003 and 2020). The War Eagles have reached the final on nine other occasions. This is North Oconee’s first trip to the championship game.
