Southeast Bulloch rushed down the field for a late touchdown and scored on the first play of overtime to help the Yellow Jackets beat Columbus 13-6 in the Division 1 flag football championship game and secure their fourth straight state championship.

Columbus took the lead with 7:31 remaining on an 8-yard pass from Serenity Hickman to Harmony Franklin. The extra point failed and the Blue Devils led 6-0.

But Southeast answered with its best offensive drive of the game, going 66 yards in 10 plays to tie the score with 1:13 remaining. Paige Nelson crashed in from the 1 with the score. The extra point failed, sending the game to overtime.

Southeast Bulloch had the ball to open the extra period and scored on its first play, a 10-yard keeper by quarterback Emma Cate Barron.

Columbus failed to score on its four downs and Southeast had its fourth straight championship.

“They just made history,” Southeast Bulloch coach Marci Cochran said. “I don’t know if any other team will be able to win four in a row. These seniors have only lost one game in their career. They came in as freshmen and finished it out with us. They’re a special group.”

Barron ran six times for 30 yards and completed 9 of 15 passes for 69 yards for Southeast (21-1). Natalya Odom and Jaci Kitchings both had three receptions. Kayla Adams intercepted a pass.

Columbus (22-7) was led by Hickman, who completed 19 of 32 passes for 152 yards and one touchdown. She also led the team with 23 rushing yards. Franklin caught nine passes for 67 yards and Lofton caught eight passes for 71 yards and intercepted a pass.
