FRIDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL'S DOUBLE HEADER! Stephenson vs Newton County & SWD vs Dunwoody

NEWTON COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL
This week’s Football Friday’s match up is between Newton County High Rams vs Stephenson High Jaguars at Halford Stadium at 4:45 pm. Newton County High School is located in Covington, Georgia and is home of the Mighty Rams. Newton County High was first established in 1949. At the time of its opening, Newton County High was the only high school in its county. In August of 1974, a brand new building was constructed and opened to house the growing number of students. Eventually becoming the new Newton County High; that has a current enrollment of over 2300 students. This high school offers many sports and activities in which each and every student has the chance to show their school spirit. Students have the chance to join baseball, football, girls and boy’s basketball, cheerleading, art club, drama club, and the chance to march with the Sound Factory Marching Band. Hey! Did You Know… That the mighty Rams were featured on Fox 5 “In Your Face” Sports Team of the Week this year, proving that Newton County Rams are a force to be reckoned with and EVERYBODY is noticing, including Stephenson High this Friday?? Maybe?!
STEPHENSON HIGH SCHOOL
Stephenson High School is located in Stone Mountain, Georgia and houses the Mighty Jaguars, the school opened their doors in 1996 where the teachers and staff instill their beliefs that “If you can dream it, you can do it!!” to every student that walks through the door. Stephenson High offers many unique assets outside of the typical high school layout. This high school is equipped with outdoor classrooms that allow students daily access to nature, landscaping, and hands on learning experience during science-based classes. Students at Stephenson decided to show their humanitarian side by making it a mission to help others. Many students helped raise money for Breast Cancer research and earthquake victims from Haiti. Such good deeds among today’s youth should be inspiring for all, Good Job Jaguars! Aside from Sports and humanitarian success, Hey! Did You Know… That during the 2009-2010 school year, 252 scholarships were awarded and offered to Stephenson High School students and those 252 scholarships equaled up to $6,300,000!!! Raising the bar for the rest of the Dekalb County schools. Good Job Jaguars!!!!
SOUTHWEST DEKALB HIGH SCHOOL
Southwest DeKalb or otherwise known as SWD High School is located in Decatur Georgia; housing one of the two High Achievers Magnet Programs in DeKalb County. Besides being known for their stellar academic success, SWD is also recognized for their outstanding sports and music departments. Hey! Did you know that the uniforms, and actual SWD band members and staff, were featured in 2002’s hit movie Drumline starring Nick Cannon. For the students who are not as actively involved with sports or the musical programs, SWD offers many organizations that will allow students to volunteer to help service their community such as BOLD (Brothers of Leadership), LOD (Ladies of Distinction), No Place for Hate, Youths In Charge and many more organizations designed to allow students to learn responsibilities while helping each other. Now, on to football… The SWD’s Panthers will be playing against Dunwoody High School TONIGHT on SWD’s home turf of Hallford Stadium. The Panthers are 2009 AAA Region 6 Champs! Let’s see if they can reign supreme again this year!!! SWD was featured on Football Friday with GPB earlier this season competing against Marist High School. Holding a tied game to the very last second, SWD eventually endeared an upset when Marist’s kicker scored the last field goal, causing the Panthers to loose the game. Alright guys!! Tonight’s the night for some redemption!!
DUNWOODY HIGH SCHOOL
Dunwoody High School located at 5035 Vermack Road, Dunwoody, Georgia will be playing against the Southwest Dekalb Panthers tonight at Hallford Stadium off Memorial drive. Dunwoody High is the home of the Mighty Wildcats whose vision is to instill PRIDE (Personal Responsibility In Developing Excellence) in each and every student that walks through the door. Dunwoody High provides its students will various clubs and activities that peaks the interest of all. Aside from the typical clubs found in every high school across America, Dunwoody offers students the chance to become a part of the Bowling Club, Key Club, Oceanography Club and even a Robotics Club. Hey! Did You Know… that Dunwoody High’s Academic Quiz Bowl Team won second place this year at the Dekalb County Knowledge Bowl!?!?! Defeating tonight’s football competitors; Southwest Dekalb’s Quiz Bowl Team in the opening rounds!?!? Congratulations Wildcats!!!! Speaking of Football… the Wildcats rank as a region 5-AAA team and were the 2008 region 5-AAA champs! The Wildcats are also known for being one of the most competitive teams in the south-east regions; let us see if they are able to prove who’s King of the Jungle tonight against the SWD Panthers!
