As summer comes to an end--as all good things do-- you may be left wanting more; more beach days, more road trips and more excitement! Well, summer may be drawing to a close, but the excitement continues this fall as GPB brings you an amazing line-up of programs that are sure to keep you entertained during those cooler months.

"The Contenders: 16 for 16," offers a look into humanity and surprising mistakes behind 16 of the most compelling and tumultuous presidential campaigns in modern history. The eight-part series airs Tuesdays, September 13 - November 1 at 8PM. We’ll revisit the past 50 years of presidential election history and show how previous campaigns are still influencing politics in unexpected ways. Also, the “Frontline” acclaimed series “The Choice” returns Tuesday, September 27 at 8PM with a two-hour film investigating what has shaped the two major-party presidential candidates, where they came from, how they lead and why they want to take on one of the most difficult jobs imaginable.

If you’re looking for history that’s a bit more action packed, then join directors Ken Burns and Artemis Joukowsky in "Defying the Nazis: The Sharps' War." On Tuesday, September 20 at 9PM, hear the courageous, untold story of an American minister and his wife who leave their children and Massachusetts home to save the lives of Jews and refugees in Nazi-occupied Europe.

Then join us as we journey even further back to another important moment in history. In NOVA “Great Human Odyssey,” we walk in the footsteps of our ancient ancestors as scientists trace the paths that led us out of Africa and around the world. From snowy Siberia to remote Pacific islands, discover how humans survived and thrived in every corner of the planet on Wednesday, October 5 at 9PM.

History and politics carry over into the arts with "Hamilton's America" from Great Performances, an intimate look at the making of the wildly successful Broadway production of "Hamilton", winner of 11 Tony Awards and the Pulitzer Prize. The feature film documentary brings history to vivid life through the contemporary perspective of Lin-Manuel Miranda's revolutionary hip-hop musical. This special airs Monday, October 24 at 8 PM.

In "Black America Since MLK: And Still I Rise," which airs Tuesdays, November 15-22 at 8 PM, acclaimed scholar Henry Louis Gates, Jr. explores the last 50 years of African-American history looking at culture, politics and an ever-changing racial landscape to explore the remarkable progress, daunting setbacks and deep contradictions of black America.

Closing out our list is "Victoria," an endearing period drama about the epic life of Queen Victoria. Jenna Coleman (Doctor Who) stars as the young, Queen Victoria. The series traces her life from her sudden accession to the throne at the age of 18 to her courtship and marriage to Prince Albert. Journey with the Queen as she is transformed from a neglected teen to the most powerful woman in the world. Audiences will have to wait a little longer for this one as it premieres in January 2017.
