ASO Presents: Carlos Simon Curates - Friday, June 21 at 7 PM & Sunday, June 23 at 4 PM
Grammy®-nominated composer Carlos Simon curates a concert for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra that shines a spotlight on local artists, including the Spelman and Morehouse College Glee Clubs. This co-production between the ASO and GPB, includes interviews with Simon and spoken word artist Marc Bamuthi Joseph which give background, insight and inspiration throughout the program. Lulu and the Girls of Americus, Georgia 1963 - Monday, June 24 at 10 PM
This documentary shed light on an unknown tragic story about the abuse of black children for the first time, accurately detailing how young people in the small rural town of Americus, Georgia got involved in a civil rights demonstration against a local theater. After being arrested, thirty-two girls were isolated and imprisoned in a deserted civil war era prison for forty-five days.
