Andrew, whose work blends Americana, folk, and faith-based themes, shares how his artistic journey has evolved over the years. “For me, music has always been about connection,” he reflects. “It’s not just about the songs themselves, but about what happens when people gather to listen—when a melody reminds someone of home, or a lyric sparks a conversation they’ve been needing to have.”

A key part of their discussion centers on Andrew’s time in Plains, Georgia, the hometown of former President Jimmy Carter. Originally visiting for a documentary project, Andrew found himself deeply moved by the town’s spirit. “There’s something about Plains,” he says. “The way people sit on their porches, the way they tell stories—it’s a place where history is alive, not just in museums or books, but in the way people live.”

Jeremy and Andrew explore the idea of what it means to feel at home, especially as an artist constantly moving between places. Andrew admits that, despite spending much of his career in Nashville, smaller communities have always drawn him in. “It’s the stillness,” he says. “There’s a richness to places where people take the time to listen, to know each other. That kind of environment changes the way I write, the way I think about my work.”

They also discuss the power of music to bring people together, especially in times of division. “I’ve played in churches, bars, living rooms, theaters—you name it,” Andrew says. “What’s always struck me is that, at the end of the day, people are looking for the same things. They want to be heard, to be understood, to find common ground. Music has a way of breaking down walls and reminding us of that.”

Throughout the episode, Andrew shares stories from his career, insights on the creative process, and thoughts on the intersection of faith, art, and community. And, of course, there’s music—live performances that showcase the heartfelt songwriting and storytelling he’s known for.

For those interested in how places shape us, how music can build bridges, and how slowing down can bring unexpected clarity, this episode offers plenty to reflect on.
