The recent hack of the adultery-enabling website Ashley Madison represents a new kind of cybersecurity threat - one designed to do as much damage as possible to brands and companies.
That's according to Chris Rouland, longtime Atlanta-based cybersecurity professional. Rouland founded Internet Security Systems, a company credited with helping to transform Atlanta into a regional cybersecurity center. In this Future Perfect podcast for GPB, Rouland talks about what he calls a new wave of "existential hacks" that includes the data theft at the federal Office of Personnel Management earlier this year.
Rouland also comments on his new security-related startup, Bastille, which is focused on the Internet of Things - a trend that connects a wider range of devices and machines such as fitness trackers, thermostats, refrigerators and cars, to each other and the Internet.
