(Event Date: Wed 12/28) The Augusta Richmond County Public Library continues its “Story Time for Tots” series in January. Wednesday morning at 10, children up to 3 years old are invited to bring their parent or guardian to the children’s programming room at the Headquarters library downtown on Telfair Street for stories, songs and rhymes. (Event Date: Wed 12/28) Wednesday morning at 10:30, the Book Tavern on Broad Street is hosting Super Awesome Storytime. This week’s story is The Ninjabread Man, by C. J. Leigh. After the reading, participants are invited to create their own edible Ninjabread men. More information is available at the Book Tavern’s facebook page.
(Event Date: Wed 12/28) This evening, beginning at 5:30, a Chanukah Festival takes place at Evans Towne Center Park on Evans Town Center Boulevard. This event features special activities, Chanukah foods and the lighting of the grand Menorah. People of all faiths are welcome. More information is available at chabadaugusta.org.
(Event Date: Thu 12/29) This week, Dupont Planetarium on University Parkway in Aiken presents “Season of Lights”--also known as “Tis the Season”. The show traces the development of many of the world’s cultural customs practiced during the winter solstice, including the Star over Bethlehem, and other Christian, Jewish, Celtic, Nordic, Roman, Egyptian and Hopi celebrations. Showtimes are at 6, 7, and 8pm Thursday night. More info on The Dupont Planetarium website .
(Event Date: Through 12/30) “Lights of The South” features millions of lights, the largest American flag made of Christmas lights in the world, hay wagon tours, visits with Santa, and the famous “Lights of the South” food. It all takes place on Louisville Road in Grovetown through the end of the month and it’s open from 6 til 10pm each night. More info at www.lightsofthesouth.com
(Event Date: Fri/Sat 12/30-31) Friday through Saturday at the Jessye Normal School of the Arts, Troy Campbell’s “Rhythm” exhibit showcases his music-inspired collection of visual art from noon to 3pm.The Augusta artist and musican’s work features collages infused with popular culture and his current show is housed in the Jessye Norman School’s Ann & Ellis Johnson Gallery located at 739 Greene Street. (Event Date: Fri 12/30) Symphony Orchestra Augusta presents Bach’s beloved Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 this weekend beginning at 7:30pm at First Baptist of Augusta on Walton Way Extension. The evening features guest conductor and violinist Levon Ambartsumian and the night’s repertoire includes Piazzolla’s “Four Seasons of Buenos Aires”, Mozart’s “Serenata Notturna”, and Tchaikovsky’s “Souvenir de Florence. (Event Date: Deadline 01/01) The 2017 “Black Cat Picture Show” is accepting submissions NOW for the 2017 event—but time is running out! The submissions deadline is New Year’s Day for your opportunity to participate in Augusta’s annual adjudicated film festival by exhibiting your work, exchanging ideas, and making connections. (Event Date: Fri-Sun 01/06-08 The Poison Peach Film Festival returns for a 9th installment Friday January 6th through Sunday January 8th. It showcases local and regional films in a variety of genres. Saturday night is R-rated and features horror films. Showtime is 7pm each night at the Imperial Theatre, 745 Broad Street in Downtown Augusta. (Event Date: Through 01/21) Aiken Center for the Arts continues its exhibit of artwork depicting local scenes created by the Aiken Plein Air painters. This show runs through January 21st and is the Center’s only exhibition of the year where artwork may be taken at the time of purchase—just in time for seasonal gift-giving.
