(Event date: Tue 01/10) Tuesdays Music Live—America’s largest lunchtime concert series—presents contemporary chamber ensemble The Revien Trio on January 10th beginning at noon at Augusta’s Saint Paul’s Church located at Reynolds and 7th Streets on the Riverwalk. Featuring guitars, electronics and cello, the trio is regularly featured on NPR’s “Performance Today.” As always, the concert is free, with paid lunch reservations available. (Event date: Wed 01/11) Wednesday at the Augusta Museum of History--as part of the Museum’s “Brown Bag Lecture Series”—it’s a presentation about “The Distinctive Communities of the River Region” by Augusta University Historian Dr. Lee Ann Caldwell. The presentation begins at 12:30 and is followed by a Q&A with Dr. Caldwell. The event is free for Museum members; $3 for non-members. More info online at http://www.augustamuseum.org/Calendar
(Event Date: Fri 1/13) The Morris Museum of Art continues their “Art at Lunch” series this Friday with Sonny Seals and George Hart, founders of the preservation effort, “Historic Rural Churches of Georgia”. The two will discuss the project, and the organization's new book with a signing after the presentation. It takes place at 12 noon at the museum at the corner of 10th and Reynolds in downtown Augusta. Additional information, including reservations, is available on the calendar tab at The Morris.Org.
(Event Date: Fri 1/13-Mon 1/16) To honor the work of The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr,, the Augusta Mini Theatre presents the play, “Before The Storm”. Written and directed by Tyrone J. Butler, “Before The Storm” is the story of Erica and Nikki, two “middlers” who ignore their mother’s advice and suffer the consequences. Performances are this Friday through Monday at The Judith Simon Drama Studio on the Campus of Augusta Mini Theatre, 2548 Deans Bridge Road in Augusta. (Event date: Sat 01/14) This Saturday, the Phinizy Swamp Nature Park is hosting a children’s hike with Story Time. It’s a nature hike designed especially for kids from toddlers to age 8 and begins with a story followed by an opportunity to explore and experience nature first-hand. (Event date: Sat 1/14) The Aiken Center for The Arts presents “Cookies & Canvas” this Saturday at 10am. Children ages 5 and up complete their own winter-themed mini-masterpieces…and of course enjoy some cookies. The Aiken Center for the Arts is located at 122 Laurens Street, SW in Aiken. (Event Date Sat 1/14) Saturday from 10 til 5, its Snow Fest at Evans Towne Center Park, a winter festival for the entire family. Activities include tubing on the giant snow slides, carnival rides, snowman building, and lots of food, crafts and vendors. Proceeds benefit Press On Fund, fighting against childhood cancer. (Event date: Mon 01/16) Coming up Monday at Augusta’s History Museum, young children ages 2-6 can learn about the history of photography through a gallery scavenger hunt. Afterward, they can create their own photo frames. It’s part of “Monday at the Museum” and begins at 10am at the Museum’s Activity Center off the main Rotunda. (Event Date: Fri 1/20) The Harry Jacobs Concert Series continues next Friday evening at Maxwell Theatre on The Augusta University Summerville Campus, featuring The Formosa Quartet. With roots in both Chinese and western music, The Formosa Quartet’s stock-in-trade is an interesting fusion of Eastern and Western masterpieces. A fellow musicians labeled them “one of the very best string quartets of their generation”. Show time is 7:30pm. Tickets and additional information are available at Augusta.universitytickets.com .
(Event date: Sun 02/26) Registration is NOW OPEN for the 2017 Augusta University Half Marathon, 10K and 5K! And this year, prizes will be awarded for the top three male and female Marathon finishers. Advance Registration is available until Thursday, February 23rd and packet pickup days are Friday and Saturday during the Expo.
