(Event date: Tue 01/24) Public libraries in Georgia offer several online ancestry resources. Since all Georgia citizens have access to the GALILEO database through their public library, these resources are at your fingertips. On Tuesday from 10:30 to 12:30, you can learn how to search and find information about your ancestors at the main branch of the Augusta Public Library, located at 9th and Telfair Streets. (Event Date: Tue 01/24) StoryLand Theatre presents “Cinderella” this week at Maxwell Theatre on The Augusta University Summerville Campus. Evening and matinee shows are scheduled through Saturday. (Event Date: Wed 1/25) The Jessye Norman School of The Arts presents “A Fun Watercolor Workshop” with local artist Charles W. Jones. The workshop covers subjects including basic techniques and the physics and chemistry of mixing water colors, all toward the goal of creating your own masterpiece. (Event Date: Fri 1/27) The Waynesboro-Burke Concert Series continues Friday evening with a music journey through the 70’s featuring the songs of Billy Joel and Elton John. "The Piano Men" stars pianist and songwriter Jim Witter.This multi-media rock musical is now in its 14th season and continues to receive rave reviews. (Event Date: Fri 1/27) The Aiken Department of Public Safety presents their annual Police and Community Engagement Summit tomorrow at the Aiken Municipal Building. The guest presenter is Dr. Clyde Rivers, founder and president of “Change Nations” and The Human Rights Global Congress. The purpose of the summit is to foster improved relationships between law enforcement and the communities they serve through dialogue. The program runs from 9a ‘til 3pm. (Event date: Fri/Sat 01/27-01/28) Friday and Saturday, it’s the final performances of the Broadway hit A Few Good Men at the Aiken Playhouse. The powerful drama written by Aaron Sorkin focuses on the trial of two Marines for complicity in the death of a fellow Marine at Guantanamo Bay. (Event Date: Sat 1/28) A tribute to one of the seminal bands in the funk music genre takes place in Augusta tomorrow evening. “Parliament Funkadelic” is a funk/soul/rock music collective that charted a half dozen number one hits during the 60’s, 70s and 80s. A tribute show, performed by Atlanta’s Dream Vision Band, is set for 10pm Saturday at Sky City, located at the corner of Broad and 12th in downtown Augusta. Tickets and info at SkyCityAugusta .com.
(Event date: Sat 01/28) Saturday morning from 8 to noon, it’s the 7thAnnual Dog Gone Cold 5/k Run/Walk at the Julian Smith BBQ Pit at Lake Olmstead on Milledge Road. It’s a dog-friendly benefit for Hopeful Hounds, Inc. so you can bring your canine partner! Many local CSRA rescue groups will have adoptable animals available at the 5K! (Event date: Sat 02/04) On Saturday, February 4th, you and your 4-legged best friend can enjoy a guided, leisurely hike through the Phinizy Swamp Nature Park. Pets & their humans can view the variety of wildlife while learning about the diverse plant life & the importance of urban wetland ecology. The Park recommends bringing drinking water and wearing comfortable, closed-toe shoes. Please note that dogs must be leashed. The walk begins at the Swamp Shop & Visitor’s Center at 9:30AM. (Event date: Sat 02/04) Coming to Augusta’s Bell Auditorium on Saturday, February 4th, the Augusta Ballet presents Philadanco! as part of the 2017 New Traditions Dance Festival. The large-scale performance by the Philadelphia Dance Company takes place from 7:30 to 10:00pm and is the culmination of the 3-day festival.
