(Event Date: Tue 02/14) Le Chat Noir hosts a special Valentine’s Day program tomorrow from 8 to 11pm with a performance of The Last Five Years.The theatre is located at the corner of 8th and Ellis in downtown Augusta. More information is available under the calendar tab at lcnaugusta.com
(Event Date: 02/16-17) Davidson Fine Arts Theater Department presents “An Evening with Georgia & Ira Gershwin” featuring songs from Porgy & Bess, Girl Crazy, and An American in Paris. Davidson’s Tap and Jazz Ensemble along with a chamber orchestra celebrate the life and music of Gerswin. The performance begins at 7pm Thursday and Friday, February 16th and 17th at the Beverly J. (Event Date: Fri 02/17) Country superstar Vince Gill plays The Bell Auditorium, 712 Telfair Street Friday evening at 8. During his long career, Vince Gill has won 20 Grammys, 18 CMA awards, and sold more than 26 million albums. During Friday’s concert, he’ll be doing long-time favorites as well as songs from his 18th studio album, Down To My Last Bad Habit. Tickets and info at AugustaEntertainmentComplex.com.
(Event Date: Fri 02/17) This Friday evening, the Aiken Community Playhouse stages William Shakespeare’s “Romeo & Juliet”, the story of star-crossed lovers caught in a long-running family feud. (Event Date: Sat 02/18) The 5th Street Exchange Art Festival is coming to Augusta featuring a variety of crafts, handmade items, antiques and more. Plus food trucks, a children’s area and a cupid-themed 5K race with proceeds benefiting the Augusta Warrior Project. The event takes place at the Riverwalk Marina this Saturday, February 18th, from 10am-4pm. More info is available on the 5th Street Exchange facebook page.
(Event Date: Sat 02/18) The Greater Augusta Arts Council presents their annual Wet Paint Party & Sale this Saturday at 7 p.m. It takes place at the Sacred Heart Cultural Center at the corner of Greene and 13th Streets in downtown Augusta, local artists are displaying original pieces that you can take home that night. (Event date: Sun 02/19) This Sunday, Augusta’s St. John’s “Concerts with a Cause” presents a Choral Festival with conductor Brad Holmes. The performance features the combined choirs of Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School, Thomson First UMC, and St. John UMC. As always, the concert is free with donations benefiting a select “cause.” This Sunday’s concert begins at 3pm with proceeds benefiting “Natalie’s Light.” You can learn more at StJohnAugusta.org/music
(Event date: Sun 02/19) This Sunday, one of America’s premier Spanish dance companies comes to Augusta. It’s Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana, dedicated to the universal spirit of the multicultural art form of flamenco. The New York Times describes Flamenco Vivo as “an infectiously joyful celebration of music and dance.” Show time this Sunday is 7:30pm at the Maxwell Theatre on AU’s Summerville campus. (Event Date: Sun 02/19) The Morris Museum of Art continues the “Music At The Morris Series” this Sunday afternoon at 2pm. Vocalist Jamal Moore and pianist Susan Zhang are set to perform “The Deep River Collection” by Moses Hogan. Admission is free. The Morris Museum is located at 10th and Reynolds in downtown Augusta. (Event date: Thu 02/21) You’re invited to next week’s Tuesdays Music Live for a free performance by the internationally acclaimed Duo “2”. The Duo features Peter H. Bloom on Flute and Mary Jane Rupert on piano in the nave of Augusta’s Saint Paul’s Church located downtown at 7th and Reynolds Streets. The 1-hour performance begins at noon.
