Winter Weather Awareness Week - Day 3 Prepared Before And During The Storm
Primary Content
Welcome to Day 3 of Winter Weather Awareness Week! The National Weather Service and I have partnered together to bring to you a series of videos to help you prepare for the winter season here in Georgia.
Today's topic is very important, since learning the information discussed today can be the difference between life and death during a disaster. Remember: the best time to plan for an emergency is before the emergency, so talk with your family and discuss what you would do in the event of a disaster. Don't forget that you might not be at home when an emergency strikes, so be sure to adjust your plans and kits so that they include the office, school, and your mode of transit. The Federal Emergency Management Agency has put together a fabulous website, Ready.gov, with numerous resources for putting together an emergency action plan and ready kit. I highly recommend you check it out!
Talking with me today is Laura Belanger, who is a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, Georgia. Laura shared some tips on preparing my home and office for an impeding winter weather emergency.
Outside, Laura shared with me what she stores in her emergency kit while she is on the road.
Laura also provided great advice for preparing my vehicle so that it remains reliable during the winter season.
You can find information about the latest winter weather watches and warnings at www.weather.gov and also at www.gpb.org. In addition, the National Weather Service in Peachtree City is a great source for information about Winter Weather in Georgia, including climatology information and historical events.
I hope you have a wonderful and safe winter! Happy storm spotting!
