GOVERNOR EUGENE TALMADGE SIGNED A JOINT RESOLUTION OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY REQUIRING EVERY TEACHER IN GEORGIA'S PUBLIC SCHOOLS, COLLEGES, AND UNIVERSITIES TO SIGN AN OATH OF ALLEGIANCE TO GEORGIA AND THE UNITED STATES ... AND TO "REFRAIN FROM DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY SUBSCRIBING TO OR TEACHING ANY THEORY OF GOVERNMENT OR ECONOMICS ... WHICH IS INCONSISTENT WITH THE FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES OF PATRIOTISM AND HIGH IDEALS OF AMERICANISM."
