Decolonizing Mental Health
A film screening and virtual discussion exploring the racism that has long underscored mental health care theory and practices.
7 - 8 p.m.
Compassionate Atlanta, Filling in the GAPS and GPB are pleased to partner for film screening and discussion with mental health industry experts and advocates from around the state who specifically work with communities of color to discuss the unique mental health care challenges faced by underrepresented communities and those that have been historically marginalized, as well as the innovative approaches being taken to ensure everyone has access to culturally competent, quality mental health care.
Decolonizing Mental Health dismantles the racism that underscores the mental healthcare industry. By focusing its gaze on the transformative work of therapists and individuals of color, it calls for a redressal of the ways in which we define psychiatric illness and health. This short-form digital video series is part of the Mysteries of Mental Illness documentary and initiative.
