About A Town Called Victoria:
When the local mosque is burned to the ground in an apparent hate crime, the town of Victoria must overcome its age-old political, racial, and economic divides to find a collective way forward. A Town Called Victoria is a Reel South and Independent Lens co-production.
About Out of Hand Theater:
Out of Hand works at the intersection of art, social justice, and civic engagement. We help create a more just world through programs that combine theater and film with information and conversation.
Since 2001, Out of Hand has collaborated with dozens of community partners to produce programs that combine art to open hearts, information to open minds, and conversation to process feelings and thoughts and make a plan for action. Our programs include Equitable Dinners, Shows in Homes, Community Collaborations, Creative Kids, and the Institute for Equity Activism. All of our programs are based on two pillars, racial justice and economic justice, and they take place in homes, schools, businesses, houses of worship, public spaces, and on Zoom.
About Music in Common
Music In Common is a non-profit organization that repairs the fractures dividing communities worldwide. Our programs facilitate dialogue, collaborative songwriting, multimedia production, and performance, and bring diverse youth and their communities together, empowering them against hate. We cultivate compassion and empathy through social-emotional learning and sharpen leadership and peace building skills through our unique peer-to-peer methodology. In any community, our programs transform apprehension into trust, fear into acceptance, powerlessness into action. Working together, participants discover their common ground, expand understanding of each other’s racial, religious, ethnic, socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds, build confidence, wage peace and — yes— change the world.
A Town Called Victoria premiered on GPB on November 13, 2023 and can be found here.
