Free for All: The Public Library tells the story of the quiet revolutionaries who made a simple idea happen. From the pioneering women behind the “Free Library Movement” to today's librarians who service the public despite working in a contentious age of closures and book bans, meet those who created a civic institution where everything is free and the doors are open to all.

About Julie Walker: 

Julie Walker is Georgia’s state librarian and vice chancellor for libraries and archives for the University System of Georgia. She has held professional positions in library systems in Athens, Georgia, and Charlotte, Winston-Salem and Asheboro, North Carolina. She is a past president of the Georgia Library Association, and associate editor of the Georgia Library Quarterly. Walker holds a Bachelor of Arts in political science and the Master of Library Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is a graduate of the University System of Georgia’s Accelerated Leadership Academy, USG’s Executive Leadership Institute and Leadership Athens. She serves as vice president/president-elect of the Chief Officers of State Library Agencies (COSLA) and as chair of COSLA's Public Policy Committee. She is a member of the ALA Committee on Advocacy and a coach with the Public Library Association’s Leadership Institute. Walker is a member of the Board of Visitors of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s School of Information and Library Science, the advisory boards of Valdosta State University’s School of Library and Information Science, and the University of Georgia’s Certified Public Manager program. She serves on the Georgia state board for the certification of librarians, OCLC
