Pilgrim's Pride To Close Athens Plant
Primary Content

Pilgrim’s Pride will close one of its two chicken processing plants in Athens as the company continues to streamline costs under bankruptcy re-organization.
This closing joins another plant to be shuttered in Alabama.
The plants together employ almost 1,000, including 330 in Athens. However, in both cases, the company in a press release says most of the workers will be offered jobs in other nearby locations.
In Athens, the company plans to consolidate production into its other nearby plant in the city, as well as other facilities in north Georgia.
Earlier this year, the chicken processor closed plants in south Georgia’s Douglas, and in northwest Georgia’s Dalton. But in both of those cases, jobs were eliminated, including nearly 300 in Dalton.
