In one Middle Georgia community an Independent politician is hoping for a victory when he faces his opponent in a run-off election in December. If he wins, he'll be the only Independent in the Georgia House of Representatives.

Rusty Kidd is a fourth generation politician. His father, grandfather and great-grandfather all served in the Georgia House of Representatives. They were also members of the Democratic Party.

The Milledgeville resident has spent most of his career around politicians, working as a lobbyist for the last 38 years. When Kidd decided to run in the 141st District in Baldwin County, he weighed his options and chose to run as an Independent.

"I felt like if I went up there as an Independent both the friends that I already have up there as Republicans and the friends I already have up there as Democrats would remain my friends, and I'd have the opportunity to communicate and work with Republicans and Democrats."

Kidd says his main priority is getting help for Baldwin County which has seen massive numbers of layoffs in the last year. In Tuesday's election Kidd got 44 percent of the vote, while his two main challengers each got under 25 percent.

Whether Darrell Black or Angela Gheesling-McCommon will face Kidd in the run-off has not been decided. That race is still too close to call.
