Georgia Aquarium Hatches Penguins
Primary Content
Two South African penguins have been hatched at the world's largest aquarium.
The Georgia Aquarium announced Thursday that the two chicks were born in January. Aquarium officials said the endangered animals were kept secret until now because they are fragile when they're born and needed time to develop before the public got a chance to see them.
The duo will not go on public display until they have shed their fluffy layer of feathers and developed their waterproof adult coats, likely in late spring or early summer. Until then, penguin fans can follow the pair at the Georgia Aquarium’s blog.
This is the first time the aquarium has had a penguin hatching.
