Flowers and notes of support adorned the fence of the Islamic Center of Savannah Monday after the mosque received a threatening letter.

The anonymous note called Muslims "vile and filthy" and said President-elect Donald Trump is "going to do to you Muslims what Hitler did to the Jews."

The Savannah-Chatham police report on the letter noted that it didn't contain "any direct threats of violence." The letter had a local return address but was mailed from California.

Local TV station WTOC reports the letter sent to the Islamic Center of Savannah is similar to other letters received by mosques in California.

Members of the Savannah mosque say they've been expecting incidents like this in the wake of Trump's election.

Arafet Afaneh, the facilities manager for the Islamic Center of Savannah, holds the anonymous letter the mosque received.
