Trump Comes To Town

Today on “Political Rewind,” President Trump comes to town. He’s here to lend support to the National Rifle Association at the group’s annual meeting but 6th District congressional candidate Karen Handel had Trump’s attention too. He’s hosting a fundraiser on her behalf while he’s in town. What does our panel have to say about all of it?
Also today, we discuss the dilemma known as Plant Vogtle. Tim Echols, a member of the state Public Service Commission is pushing for federal assistance to complete two new nuclear reactors at the Georgia facility and recently flew to Dallas to make his case directly to Secretary of Energy Rick Perry. He joins us to talk about an admittedly complicated situation. Westinghouse Electric Co., the mega-contractor that had been building the reactors for Georgia Power, declared bankruptcy last month. Meanwhile, Georgia taxpayers have been paying to finance Plant Vogtle construction since 2011 under a 2009 bill passed by the Georgia legislature. Georgia Power is likely to finish building the plant as its own contractor, and they will probably present a new price tag for completion to the PSC. Will the agency give Georgia Power the right to pass on added costs to taxpayers?
