Deadline for Public Comment on Proposed Spaceport
Primary Content
Thursday, June 14, 2018, is the last day for people to comment on Camden County’s plans to launch rockets off Georgia’s coast.
The County wants to build a launch site for small and medium-size rockets.
EIS Deadline for Spaceport Camden.
Commissioner Steve Howard said it will be good for the economy and bring rocket and satellite manufacturing to South Georgia.
“We have a great opportunity to take all these assets that Georgia has, leverage it and really build for the future,” Howard said.
But the rocket launch path over Cumberland Island National Seashore and Little Cumberland Island worries some residents, like Kevin Lang.
“This is what we’re most concerned about is the impact of what happens when a rocket explodes," Lang said. "And we don’t fare very well here (on Little Cumberland Island)."
The comments will be part of an environmental impact statement laying out possible risks. It’s required for Spaceport Camden to be licensed by the Federal Aviation Administration.

Zee, Environmental Specialist, Federal Aviation Administration, c/o Leidos, 2109 Air Park Road SE, Suite 200, Albuquerque, NM 87106. The deadline is June 14, 2018.
