Georgia Peach Could Break World Record
Primary Content
A Georgia peach that weighed in at 1.8 pounds might be a contender for the title of the world’s heaviest peach.
Fittingly, the peach was grown in Georgia’s own Peach County, at Pearson Farm.Matthew Causey, GPB News in Macon
The farm posted a video on Facebook of their unofficial weigh-in, showing off what they hope will officially overcome the current record.
Roseridge Orchards in British Columbia, Canada currently holds the Guinness World Record for Heaviest Peach. Their record-breaking peach weighed in at just over 1.78 pounds in 2016.
"Pearson did nothing to enhance the growth of this peach," farm spokeswoman Angela Young told GPB News. "The peach was one of just a few on this tree, so it received all the good stuff it needed to grow."
Young said the employee who picked the peach, "Mr. Diaz," knew immediately that he had something special when he picked if from the tree.
"We contacted Guinness who informed us of the steps we needed to take to get the peach certified, which was done that day," Young said.
Pearson Farm is waiting to hear from Guinness to see if it will make the record books. The University of Georgia has already officially weighed the peach.
