The Atlanta Hawks begin training camp this week ahead of the upcoming NBA season, and they'll be doing so with the oldest player in the league on their roster.
At 41 years of age, Vince Carter is the oldest active player in the NBA on a team with many young players and new faces. He spoke Monday about his role at a media event held at Emory's Sports Medicine Complex.

Besides helping the Hawks on the court, Carter said his other main role will be as a mentor for players like top draft pick Trae Young, who wasn't even born when Carter began his playing career in 1998.
"You're going to have rough times, whether the world sees it or not," Carter said during a Facebook Q and A. "You're going to want an outlet, and I've been there. I always try to do that for the young guys."
Fans probably shouldn't expect to see many of Carter's trademark athletic dunks that made him famous earlier in his career.
But the eight-time All-Star said Hawks fans could still experience some high-flying highlights at some point in the upcoming season.
The Hawks begin the 2018-2019 campaign on Oct. 17 against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden.
