It's another busy fall weekend in Savannah, and Anna Chandler of Savannah Magazine has some tips on how to spend it.Anna talks weekend events.
Anna's picks:
- See veterans' stories as MountainFilm on Tour presents three documentary short films at Service Brewing, in honor of Veterans Day. Each tells a story of war or returning from war, and the event will feature a question-and-answer session with the directors and subjects after the screening. The evening begins at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, with the program from 6:30 to 10 p.m.; $15 general admission, free for veterans.
- Enjoy a unique poetry performance at Blank Page Poetry – Waters Avenue: Voices Along the Corridor. The performance blends poetry, music, dance and digital projection as communites along Waters Avenue share their perspective at St. Peter's Episcopal Church on Skidaway Island, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday; free.
- Snag some fashion for a cause at Grab a Bag for Kids, a charity luncheon and purse auction benefitting Horizons Savannah, which provides programs for students from low-income backgrounds. The silent auction begins at 11 a.m. Friday, with the lunch at noon; $35.
- Eat your fill at the Port Wentworth Oyster Roast, BBQ and Music Festival. The fun includes live entertainment and activities for kids from 3 to 9 p.m. Saturday, behind Renasant Bank on Highway 21; free.
- Rock out at the Concert for Conservation at Southbound Brewing. The Hypnotics will perform a tribute to the Rolling Stones with special guests form the local music scene at this show benefitting the Coastal Conservation Association starting at 8 p.m. Saturday; $20 in advance, $25 at the door.
- Honor Veterans Day with several events this weekend. Fort Pulaski will offer free admission along with a living history event, featuring costumed interpreters, beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Then the annual Veterans Day Parade begins Monday at 10:15 a.m. in downtown Savannah.
