There's a little something for everyone in Savannah this weekend before Thanksgiving (and beyond). Joshua Peacock of the Savannah Morning News has some tips.Joshua talks weekend events.
Joshua's picks:
- Enjoy some tasty treats at Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church's Pecan and Honey Harvest in Madison Square. Local honey from Asbury's bees will be available, along with all sorts of pecan-based foods, live entertainment and more from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday; free.
- Discover local history at the Owens-Thomas House and Slave Quarters free community day. Following years of research, the historic house museum is unveling new interpretive exhibits to tell the "full story of the free and enslaved people who lived and worked on the site." The event includes music and refreshments from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday; free.
- Take in some world-class music as the Savannah Philharmonic hosts Anthony Kearns of the Irish Tenors. They'll perform favorite and memorable songs, from Danny Boy to Nessun Dorma, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Saturday; $25 to $80.
- Celebrate Savannah native Johnny Mercer with a Birthday Bash at Tybee Post Theater. The region's accomplished musicians will perform their renditions of Mercer's many hits from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday; $20.
- Keep your shopping local at Graveface's Black Friday Record Store Day. Find exclusive releases and flash sales all day. Graveface Records and Curiosities will be open 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23.
- Get pumped for music coming to Savannah next year. Both Savannah Stopover and the Savannah Music Festival have made big lineup announcements in recent weeks, and tickets for both festivals are on sale now. Find write-ups of both at Do Savannah.
