Several new restaurants consumed the spotlight in metro Atlanta in 2018. Each year, Atlanta Magazine’s “The Year In Food” considers those attention-getters from Mexican, to Ramen to good ol’ Southern style-dishes. “On Second Thought” spoke with Atlanta Magazine food writer and critic Jennifer Zyman about her favorites of the year."On Second Thought" for Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2018

In 2000, five men beat Mark Hogancamp so brutally he was left with no memory. Besides relearning how to eat, walk and write, Hogancamp imagined a new past. He built a detailed miniature town where he acts out World War II-era story lines using dolls. Then, he photographs them. The vignettes follow his alter ego, Hogie, a pilot who lands near the imaginary Belgian town of Marwencol.

"On Second Thought" guest David Naugle, an Atlanta-based photographer and director, first encouraged Hogancamp to share those realistic photos beyond his small, upstate New York town. That led to an art magazine publication, gallery shows, the documentary "Marwencol" and now, "Welcome to Marwen," a Hollywood film starring Steve Carell as Hogancamp. It opens in theaters across the country Dec. 21.

The holiday season is here, and with it, long roadtrips, layovers and delays. Our job here at "On Second Thought" is 94 percent listening, so to bide your time we're bringing you some of the things we've enjoyed hearing over the past year.

Producers La'Raven Taylor, Leighton Rowell and Elena Rivera join host Virginia Prescott and senior producer Amy Kiley in the studio to share their favorite podcasts and music of 2018. See the full list here.
