Republican Governor-elect Brian Kemp delivered his first major speech to legislators today in Athens.

Kemp said his legislative priorities mirror those he made on the campaign trail, including increased teacher pay and addressing healthcare in rural Georgia.

“The rising tide in Atlanta, Augusta and Savannah has not lifted our rural communities," Kemp said. "Some continue to struggle in some areas it feels like they're still in the Great Recession.”

Kemp will have support on those issues in the legislature.

Last week, the House Rural Development Council recommended boosting the rural hospital tax credit and expanding broadband internet access across the state.
