Fears For Icy Weather Turn Out To Be Bust After State And City Closures

After dozens of schools and state and city offices closed across metro Atlanta Tuesday, the threat of snow and icy roads failed to materialize.
But cold weather is on the way and a wind chill advisory goes into effect at 2 a.m. Wednesday.
Monday, the National Weather Service said freezing temperatures would directly follow rain in the middle of the work day.

Kyle Thiem is a metereologist with the NWS. He says there was a possibility in the forecast for severe weather, but there are some variables forecasters can't predict.
"A couple degrees or a little bit of drying, you know a couple of tenths of an inch of rain can make the difference in these types of events," he said.
Thiem says afternoon sun and wind helped dry the little preciptiation on the roads left over from Tuesday morning. That's before temperatures drop below freezing Tuesday night.
He does warn that there remains a potential for black ice on untreated or less-traveled roads, especially the more north you go, as temperatures are expected to drop below zero through early Wednesday morning.
