It's the first weekend in February, and there's plenty to do in Savannah. Mahogany Bowers with Blessings in a Bookbag has some tips.Mahogany talks weekend events.

Mahogany's picks:

  • Don't miss the final days of the Savannah Jewish Film Festival. "The Invisibles" tells the story of Jewish teens and young adults who outlasted the Third Reich while hiding in Berlin, at 7 p.m. Thursday. In "The Boy Downstairs," a conflicted millennial revisits a failed romance, at 8:15 p.m. Saturday.
  • Explore African art when the Savannah African Art Museum reopens on Friday. The collection includes more than 1,000 objects from West and Central Africa, including a range of ceremonial pieces from the 19th and 20th centuries. Open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays; free.
  • Run a little or a lot at the Critz Tybee Run Fest. The two-day event includes five runs, totaling a full marathon if you run them all. It kicks off with a 5K at 6:15 p.m. Friday, followed by a 10K at 7 a.m. Saturday; full schedule, pricing and registration here.
  • Eat some tasty, spicy chili at Savannah Harley-Davidson's annual chili cook-off. Cooks will compete for first, second and third place, as well as prizes for showmanship and people's choice, from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday.
  • Enjoy the music of "Songs of Freedom and Justice: A Recital." The performance features the Savannah State University Concert Chorus, including alumni and faculty, at Butler Presbyterian Church at 3 p.m. Sunday. It's part of the Savannah Black Heritage Festival; find the full festival schedule here.
