Primary Content

But today, we’re highlighting a controversial song that put Parks at odds with one of Atlanta’s most famous music acts.
Music Minute: Outkast v Rosa Parks
The 1998 hit song “Rosa Parks” by Outkast caused a stir between the artists and the civil rights legend.
Parks was not okay with Outkast and Laface Records using her name in a song with no historical or biographical context, which led to a lawsuit.

After years of legal wrangling, the case was finally settled just before her death in 2005 for an undisclosed amount.
As part of the agreement, Big Boi and Andre 3000 agreed to work with the Rosa and Raymond Parks Institute for Self Development to create educational programs for kids.
