The personal data of 1.3 million current and former faculty, students, and others has been exposed in a security breach at Georgia Tech.

Tech officials said the university discovered the breach in late March and took action to address it.

Officials say the breach could include addresses, birth dates and social security numbers, but the full extent of the exposed information is still unknown.

University officials said they have already notified the U.S. Department of Education and the University System of Georgia.

The data was being stored on a central database and the university is working now to identify who is responsible.
