There is lots to do this weekend in Savannah. Claire Sandow of the Tourism Leadership Council and Lauren Cleland of Visit Savannah have your guide.Claire and Lauren talk weekend events.

Lauren's picks:

  • Start the weekend with music at the Tybee Post Theater, where Mipso and Chatham County Line will play. Both are Americana bands from North Carolina, and this is one of just three stops on their tour together. It runs 8 to 10 p.m. Friday; $25 reserved seating, $30 premium.
  • Don't forget your fin when you check out Mermaid Fest on Tybee Island this weekend. Part of Savannah Pride, the fun includes a pub crawl, after party and pier party, with mermaid gear strongly encouraged, Friday through Sunday.
  • Combine Sci-Fi and real history during May The 8th Air Force Be With You. Wear your Star Wars Day best to the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum to learn how the imagery and history of World War II influenced Star Wars, including artifacts on display for this event only, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday; $8, free for kids and WWII veterans.
  • Explore the magic of nature (and magic) at Oatland Island's Fairy and Gnome Festival. Get up close with the natural world, construct a fairy village, enjoy crafts and more from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday; $5 adults, $3 children.

Claire's picks:

  • Celebrate May the Fourth  Star Wars Day and Free Comic Book Day  with the opening of two new comics stores in Savannah. Neighborhood Comics will celebrate with beer specials from White Whale Craft Ales (their next-door neighbor), photo opps, pin ball and more from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Odin and Sons will hold a cosplay contest, Star Wars trivia and giveaways from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Wear your best hat to local Kentucky Derby-watching parties. The Grove will feature mint juleps and live music from 3 to 7 p.m.; $25. Peregrin will hold a hat contest, with a stay at the Perry Lane Hotel for the winner, and a party from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m.
  • Enjoy a bit of Scotland right in Savannah with the Scottish Games at Bethesda Academy. The celebration of Scottish culture includes traditional games, music, food and more from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
  • Help clean up Savannah at the Midtown Trash Bash. Join residents and the Savannah Trash Warriors in picking up trash from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday.
  • Take your furry friends to the annual Doggie Carnival in Forsyth Park, featuring a doggie derby and lots of treats for pets, along with food trucks and more for people, from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.
