New Chair For Georgia Ports Authority

The Georgia Ports Authority has elected a new chairman. Augusta Construction company executive William D. McKnight will begin a term July 1.
McKnight, who is the president of McKnight Construction, was appointed to the Georgia Ports Authority Board more than six years ago by then-Gov. Nathan Deal.
As chairman, McKnight said his key responsibilities will be oversight of the Georgia Ports Authority, and the team that manages day to day operation of the ports. With projects to expand the ports’ ship, container, rail and truck capacity well underway, one of his points of emphasis will be improving their competitive edge.
“We’re starting a service to Chicago with CSX this week,” McKnight said. “So a box that’s delivered to our yard will be delivered to the CSX yard. And then three days later it will be in Chicago. That’s kind of unheard of. If you’re going through New York, it’s going to take you 40 days. “
Port operations, together with related private sector companies, generate more than $84 billion in revenue annually.
