Georgia Power Customers Will Receive $25 Plant Vogtle Bill Credit In July

Georgia Power customers will receive another $25 credit on their July power bill, the utility said in a news release.
This is the second of three credits planned under the Vogtle nuclear plant construction.
The Georgia Public Service Commission approved a total of $188 million in credits as part of its order to continue construction of Vogtle 3 and 4 at the Augusta plant. Units 1 and 2 have been in operation since 1987 and 1989.
"The credits are a direct result of parent guarantee payments for the Vogtle project from Toshiba available due to the strength of the original contract for the project and protections in place for Georgia electric customers," the release states.
Georgia Power says customers will pay $139 million less than expected in 2018 for the Vogtle project with the typical residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt-hours per month paying $1 less each month than they did in 2017.
