Plant Vogtle Secures Two Key Votes In Decision On Construction

Two key players in the construction of Plant Vogtle have decided to continue on with the project.
 

Georgia Power and the Municipal Electric Authority of Georgia have each agreed to move forward in  building the nuclear power facility, but Oglethorpe Power, which has a 30 percent stake in the project, only offered a conditional yes.

All co-owners of the power plant must agree to move on with the project. The cost of completing the plant has skyrocketed to north of $20 billion.

 
Oglethorpe announced Monday night it wanted to cap costs on the project before fully supporting continuning construction. 
 

Late last week, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported a group of Georiga legislators sent a letter to the Vogtle ownership group asking them to cap the cost of building. 

The project is also years behind schedule. Georgia Power and MEAG agreed to extend the deadline for Oglethorpe's vote until Tuesday evening.
