Some Return Money After Armored Truck's Cash Spill On Atlanta Interstate
Primary Content
Cloudy with a chance of cash. That's what Dunwoody police officers posted on Facebook after an armored car accidentally spilled about $175,000 onto I-285 West near Ashford-Dunwoody Road Tuesday evening.
But, believe it or not, some people came forward Wednesday to return the would-be boon.
As odd and as tempting as the situation was for area drivers, taking the money is theft, police said.
Officers located an armored car on the right shoulder of I-285 about 8 p.m. Tuesday. The armored car crew said the side door came open while they were driving and money spilled onto the interstate. More than 15 cars pulled over to cash in, according to 911 operators and police.
While law enforcement collected a few hundred dollars, much more went missing.
Police said they were thankful there were no crashes or pedestrians struck as a result of this "isolated cash storm."
