Tyler Perry Joins New BET Video Streaming Service

Tyler Perry Studios is partnering with Viacom and BET to launch a new streaming service.
BET+ will feature on-demand video streaming for subscribers, as well as new projects from Perry.
While receiving BET’s Ultimate Icon Award this, Perry revealed why he chose Atlanta as the location for his studios.
“When I built my studio, I built it in one of the poorest black neighborhoods in Atlanta so that young black kids could see that a black man did that, and they can do it too," Perry said.

In 2015, Perry purchased 330 acres of land known as Fort McPherson for the location of Tyler Perry Studios. Fort McPherson was once a Confederate army base during the Civil War.
Perry remarked on the history of the land during his acceptance speech.
“There were Confederate soldiers plotting and planning on that base on how to keep 3.9 million negros enslaved" he said. "Now that land is owned by one negro.”
Tyler Perry Studios is one of the largest film studios in the Southeast.
