U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson is home from the hospital following a week of inpatient rehabilitation.

The 74-year-old senior senator, who has Parkinson’s disease and walks with a cane, suffered four fractured ribs after losing his balance at his Washington, D.C. apartment.

“I am doing much better thanks to the excellent medical care and rehabilitation services I have received," Isakson said in a statement. "I’m looking forward to sleeping in my own bed and will remain focused on making a full recovery so I can get back to work. All of the thoughtful messages of support have kept my spirits high, and I thank everyone who has lifted me up during this time.”

Isakson has been receiving treatment at WellStar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta.  He expects to be well enough to return to Washington later this summer.
