The ballad tells the story of a young man named Johnny who beats the Devil himself in a musical showdown and earns a golden fiddle.

The song spent 14 weeks at #1 on the Hot Country Singles chart in 1979.

Since then, it’s been covered many times, including in Spanish by the band Caballo Dorado.

And although the 82-year-old Daniels is a native of North Carolina, his song about a battle in Georgia will continue to be a favorite for people all across the state.
