Animal Shelters Open To Pet Evacuees Of Hurricane Dorian

Several animal shelters across Georgia have opened their doors to pets of Hurricane Dorian evacuees, which is poised to hit coastal Georgia as a Category 2 hurricane Thursday. Additionally, the Georgia Department of Agriculture has temporarily suspended animal health requirements in lieu of the storm.
Currently, the suspension of animal health requirements — which includes a certificate of veterinary inspection (health certificate), a Coggins test for equine and vaccination requirements for pets — applies to Florida and South Carolina evacuees and their animals, but will be upgraded as requested by state animal health officials.
GDA will provide the temporary suspension effective until Sept. 19 in order to "facilitate the rapid and safe evacuation of people and animals from the path of Hurricane Dorian."
Georgia State Parks are waiving ParkPass and pet fees for evacuees, with some stables available for horses. A complete list of evacuation stables for equine, kennels for boarding and veterinary hospitals that can assist with boarding pets is available here.
Additionally, RedRover Responders, an organization that provides emergency assistance to animals in crisis, has provided resources to people and animals affected by the hurricane.
